In yogic traditions, chakras are described as seven subtle energy centres. They are a contemplative framework, not scientifically established anatomy, and practising them is not a cure for any illness.
1. 🔴 Root — Muladhara

✨ Significance: Traditionally the foundation of the energy body.
2. 🟠 Sacral — Svadhisthana
📍 Traditional location: Lower abdomen
🕉️ Bija mantra: वं (VAM)
💭 Traditionally associated with: Creativity, emotions, flow
🧘 Meditation: Imagine gentle waves moving with your breath.
🧎 Yoga: Baddha Konasana (Butterfly), hip circles
🌬️ Breathing: Soft, wave-like breathing
🌱 Positive habit: Do one creative thing daily
❤️ Reflection: Do I allow myself to feel and create?
✨ Significance: Traditionally linked with the water element.
3. 🟡 Solar Plexus — Manipura
📍 Traditional location: Upper abdomen
🕉️ Bija mantra: रं (RAM)
💭 Traditionally associated with: Confidence, willpower, discipline
🧘 Meditation: Picture a warm steady light at the navel.
🧎 Yoga: Naukasana (Boat), Surya Namaskar
🌬️ Breathing: Kapalbhati (gently, if comfortable)

4. 💚 Heart — Anahata

🧘 Meditation: Loving-kindness: wish well to yourself and others.
🧎 Yoga: Bhujangasana (Cobra), gentle chest openers
🌬️ Breathing: Breathe as if into the chest
🌱 Positive habit: One act of kindness daily
❤️ Reflection: Whom can I forgive or appreciate today?
✨ Significance: Traditionally the bridge between lower and higher centres.
5. 🔵 Throat — Vishuddha
📍 Traditional location: Throat
🕉️ Bija mantra: हं (HAM)
💭 Traditionally associated with: Expression, truthful communication
🧘 Meditation: Chant slowly and feel the vibration in the throat.
🧎 Yoga: Gentle neck rolls, Setu Bandhasana (Bridge)
🌬️ Breathing: Ujjayi (soft ocean breath)
🌱 Positive habit: Speak kindly and honestly

6. 🟣 Third Eye — Ajna

7. ⚪ Crown — Sahasrara

🧘 Meditation: Sit in silence, simply aware.
🧎 Yoga: Shavasana, Padmasana/easy seated pose
🌬️ Breathing: Natural, effortless breath
🌱 Positive habit: Daily quiet time and prayer
❤️ Reflection: What am I grateful for beyond myself?
✨ Significance: Traditionally the seat of pure awareness.
🌈 Start Chakra Practice
- Sit comfortably with a straight, relaxed spine
- Relax your body from head to toe
- Slow your breathing
- Focus attention gently on the chosen area (centre of the chest)
- Visualise the chakra's colour, if you wish
- Repeat the traditional bija mantra softly: यं (YAM)
- Sit quietly for a few moments
- Finish with gratitude
